He watched them as he did when the loneliness of his position became too much. They stood hand-in-hand, warm smiles on their faces. Ares sighed, overwhelmed and unaware of his own watcher.
"Herc, it's beautiful. Why?"
"Why do you think? I just got you back. I won't let you go again. Will you marry me? I'll even ask Dite to perform the wedding."
The demigod suddenly found himself with an armful of blond hunter.
"I've waited so long, yeess!"
The well-tended lovely garden to which Herc had brought his beloved to propose faded away as their eyes met. Hercules reached out and tenderly placed the lovely Sapphire Necklace around Iolaus' neck.
"I had Hephaestus make this for you." So saying, he leaned forward and . . . nearly jumped out of his skin as a peal of thunder boomed. Iolaus laughed and ran towards shelter knowing that his beloved would follow.
On Olympus, Ares continued to let out his grief in one of the fiercest thunderstorms Greece would ever know.
Aphrodite watched Hercules and Ares as an idea came to her. She formed a picture of a lanky young man in mismatched armor.
"Don't worry, Ares, you won't be alone much longer."
