OBJECTIVE

To further my skills in Writing and Office Administration; to find a full-time, stable job in an office environment.

SKILLS

I'm bright and creative and I love learning new things. I work very well in a team environment and am a self-starter. Adept at multi-tasking, I am both flexible and dependable. I am proficient at research and can write about almost any topic. I also have years of computer experience and am familiar with many common software programs - particularly those relating to word processing, graphics and HTML editing. In addition, I use the Internet often and I have created various sites for personal use, for friends, and have provided content, graphic and HTML support for professional sites. I also keep tabs on emerging programs and technologies, and am furthering my skills in Adobe PageMaker Pro and Macromedia Flash. I have excellent spoken and written English.

EDUCATION

Simon Fraser University
I am completing a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies at Simon Fraser University. I take the occasional evening course (I have no intention of returning to school full-time) and will most likely be completing my degree sometime in 2006 or 2007. I have already completed over 50 credits at S.F.U. and have 30 from Douglas College. I am interested in a wide variety of subjects, but my studies focus primarily on English Literature, Archaeology, Art and Film Theory, Philosophy and Women's Studies.

Vancouver Film School
Course Certificate in Dynamic HTML - 1999

WORK EXPERIENCE

Oct 11th 2005 - Jan 20th, 2006   Kelly Services, 255 - 555 Burrard Street, Vancouver / eBay, Burnaby
     eBay Customer Service Representative
I was hired by Kelly services to work for eBay customer service in their Live Chat department. I used chat software to help multiple members simultaneously, and also provided email support for members using a response tree. The position had rigorous evaluation standards and goals. I completed a 4-week training and screening program, which included extensive customer service work. Despite being there for a little over 3 months I decided to leave as this position was simply not a good fit for me.
July 2004 - August 2005   Daniadown Quilts, 1270 S.E. Marine Drive, Vancouver
     Retail Order Desk
Hired for a full-time permanent position in retail order entry. I was responsible for entering and following-up on orders for 15 retail outlets throughout the Lower Mainland, and in Alberta and Manitoba. Also provided wholesale customer support. The position included aspects of office administration, such as answering phones, filing and customer service, but my time was spent primarily entering new orders into the system and following orders through the chain of production. The position required me to be a liaison between the outlets and the production and shipping staff. I also managed and produced new product pricing signs for the retail stores using Microsoft Publisher. I entered and maintained orders in AccPac II on a windows-based system. I also wrote product information on bird down and its care for the site and for staff. After being in the position for a year I was ready to try something new.
May 2002 - June 2003   Robinson Lighting & Bath Centre, 2285 Cambie Street, Vancouver
     Administrative Assistant / Accounts Receivable
I was hired for a temporary, full-time position to cover for maternity leave. I was responsible for accounts receivable for three branches - the primary one being the 'flag' Vancouver branch - including data entry, invoicing, filing and customer service. I was also responsible for ordering office supplies and equipment, in-going and out-going mail, and entering inter-company purchase orders. Other duties include operating a 9-line switchboard, cash support and event scheduling.
April 2000 - Feb 2001   Web of Care.com Inc., 340 - 1122 Mainland Street, Vancouver
Content Provider / Marketing Support / Site Support
I wrote original content, primarily providing feature material on medical breakthroughs and their implications for care-giving. I also provided HTML support, including the loading up of my own material onto the live site. I helped with the production of a paper catalogue, and with the incorporation of the Content Department into the Marketing Department in late 2000, provided marketing support as well. As needed, I would also provide proofing for written work, including marketing materials and a white paper, for the Director of Content. After being laid off in February due to company re-structuring, I was again contracted in June of 2001 to write a feature piece for Web of Care.com Inc. on the emotional after-effects of stroke on care recipients and caregivers. (This company folded sometime in 2001, as did its parent company, Stratford Internet Technologies Inc.)
Sept 1999 - April 2000   Web of Care.com Inc./ Stratford Internet Technologies Inc., 500 - 1168 Hamilton Street, Vancouver
     Graphics and Content Support
I initially worked contract as a graphics support person, primarily working on the care-giving animations being created for Web of Care.com. I was subsequently contracted to provide product descriptions and content support in December of 1999, and did so until my hiring as staff in April 2000.
May 1997 - July 1998   Bio-Wash Products Inc., 101 - 7156 Brown Avenue, Ladner
     General Plant Worker
Worked various duties related to the production of wood-care products.

May 1993 - Dec 1995   Premier Security, 260 - 12551 Vickers Way, Richmond
     Security Officer / Supervisor

Worked as a security officer at the Vancouver Art Gallery. I was promoted to supervisor in August 1994. I had full responsibility for guards and security of the building, including during day and evening events.
July 1991 - Jan 1994   A&B Sound, 3433 East Hastings, Vancouver
     Record Warehouse Staff Person
I performed extensive data entry and inventory control, including some ordering. I also had shipping and receiving duties, and occasionally operated the switchboard.
March 1991 - May 1991   Surrey Taxation Centre (Federal Government)
     Selection Examiner, Clerk and Reviewer
Arranged T-1 Income Tax Returns in correct order. Had to pass a detailed and competitive aptitude test to get the job. Was a temporary position for the tax season. Was asked back the following season but was unavailable due to a planned trip to Spain.
Nov 1988 - March 1991   McDonald's, 10250 152nd Street, Guildford, Surrey
